What does .php mean and why isn't it .mp3?

I have downloaded a couple of the free books with no problems and have managed to get them on my ipod successfully. However, this month's download (May) and the other book I just purchased are causing me problems. I don't think I've done anything differently than I did before. I can't get them to open in itunes, though. It says they are a php file. What does that mean? I chose the mp3 file to download. What should I do? I'm relatively new at all this, so any help and education is greatly appreciated!

Normally you shouldn't receive this type of extension. The .php extension is a reference to the location where the mp3 files are accessible for downloading from the server. This may have happened due to downloading multiple files at a time or using a download manager. This is why we don't recommend doing either. I would recommend that you try to download the files again, however this time right click on the download tab and select "Save Target As". Once there try renaming the file with a .mp3 extension.
