sad I’m frustrated

I have to download twice

I've now purchased 3 audiobooks, and with every one of them I go through the lengthy and time-consuming process of downloading each part only to discover later when I'm trying to load them onto my iPod for a 16-hour drive that the file cannot be found. Each time I go back and re-download every single file exactly the same way and it works, but PLEASE tell me I'm simply doing something wrong and that there's actually a way to do this that doesn't require me to repeat the process, taking twice the time and effort.
Here's exactly what I've been doing: when I click on the download button, a box pops up asking "What should Firefox do with this file?" It's already set to Open using iTunes (my default). The download takes place, and it's added to my iTunes. But after I'm done downloading I go back into iTunes and click on the files and here's the error I get:
"The song {title name} could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"

  • Thanks for contacting us and sorry for this inconvenience!

I can tell right away that the issue is that you are telling Firefox to "Open using iTunes". What this does is allows the browser to place a temporary file on your computer (in a location you cannot access, as a user) and then deletes that file when you've closed iTunes and Firefox, thus losing the audio files.

Our recommendation is to choose a location that Firefox can download the files to, rather than "opening" them. Somewhere in Documents or Downloads, where you can easily access the files. Then, once the files are downloaded, open iTunes and drag-and-drop them into the library or to your device being synced with iTunes. This will ensure the files are saved on your computer and not in a temporary folder.

    Hope this helps!
    • Also, make sure that your iTunes preferences are set to "Copy" to your Media folder before you drag and drop them into iTunes. This will solve the referencing errors.

In iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and then select "Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to the library." then click "OK" I would also recommend that you select "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" as well.
