A christianaudio app for Android would be a good idea
I'd love it if there were a christianaudio app available on the Android marketplace!

I really do understand your frustration with the agonizing wait (I'm an Android user myself). Unfortunately, there is not ETA at the time because of many different projects we have ongoing, a major one being some enhancements to the new site we launched in October 2010.
I'm not sure if any of you are Android developers, but please let us know if you are (http://christianaudio.com/contact)! There is quite a bit of work to get an app that is stable, that will connect to the backend of our web environment and enable the user to have the different features they desire (without costing us $100k+ and thus forcing us to raise prices on our downloads or cease publishing altogether).
Again, thank you for your patience as we try and prioritize all the new and different features and titles that we're bringing to market over the next 12 months!

I do download the mp3s and put them on my droid but it is a ton faster to just make a few clicks on my droid and the book automatically downloads (like it does for the audible app on my droid). I actually just downloaded a bio by charles spurgeon from Christianaudio and am enjoying the book but it took about 30 minutes to get it to my computer, then to my droid. I like your christian selection of books better than audible so I am looking forward to it working better on android devices in the future.

I completely agree. I'm glad they're offering iPhone apps, but they're useless to the growing Android community. Plus Android is just better! :)

Haha, well thank you for your comments. The more customers requesting mobile apps for different platforms, they more we can consider expanding to those platforms. Thanks!

Android is a rapidly growing cell phone market. Would love to have an app for my Droid Indredible,

Thanks for your comments! We already have Android apps in our sights and are happy to hear positive comments from potential users!

Really hope this app is available soon!! Audible took forever getting their android app out! I love your website and great downloads and look forward to being able to have them on my phone easier! my touch 3g

Great idea. I listen to all of my audio books on my Droid in the car using the Car Dock. An app would be great.
-
I currently have to download to my pc then use third party software to get them to my phone and more third party software to listen.

I recently bought an Android phone and love to listen to music/sermons/audiobooks as I walk and would love to be able to download Christianaudio products directly to it.
-
It doesn't look like we'll have an app that will let you download from our store directly to an Android device for quite some time. That is some very advanced functionality. However, we may have individual audiobook apps for Android devices very soon!

I am an Audible subscriber. I looked at your Audiobook selections for Christians and you guys are awesome! I would like to drop Audible and subscribe to Christian Audio but I don't listen to Audio Books on anything except my Droid. Is there a way too get a book from you onto my Droid and be able to listen to it without a fancy app?
-
Most certainly! All our audiobooks come in MP3 format, which can be downloaded to your computer and then transferred to your phone via a USB cable. For Android devices, you can download the files directly to your device from our website (over the air or WiFi) through your Download Library: http://christianaudio.com/downloadabl...

Althought I started out the the Ipad, and still use it alot, I have grown to prefer reading and listening on my Android cell phone, which I can do anywhere, anytime.
Android is definitely the way to go. -

Android is nipping at iPhone's heels. Android would be a good addition.

Please bring the Android app! I have been using mostly audible books because it is so much easier to listen to their books on my android since they have an app for my phone. I am running up the credits here on Christianaudio and would love to come back and use you all more. :)
-
Thanks for your comments; we're working towards that end!

Oh, you know you can download audiobooks from our site and put the MP3s on your Android...

I figure the more people ask the more likely you will make one....PLEASE make an android app :)
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Please, please make an app for android :). -

I would love an Android app able to stream my ChristianAudio books. Well, maybe streaming would not be appropriate. Maybe download to sdcard for listening, kind of like Kindle.

There is a universe of Android users that would want this, and I'm one. Part of any goood missionary effort is to reach out to as many as possible - put this on Android and watch it grow !
-
Not to mention that Android is the fastest growing OS in the world! On a side note though, I am able to use Skyfire browser to buy and download books right to my Android 2.2 Epic 4g. It's not seamless but it does work pretty well.

I've downloaded books from C/A directly to my android phone last month -- that makes things a bit faster. I'm also using WinAmp and this allows my audio files to sync over wifi, taking out a step. Playback on the phone is a bit lacking, IMHO -- there's no good pause/resume function for Audiobooks... or have you found one?
-
Although you are able to download directly to an Android phone and sync over WiFi and USB, we do not directly support any of these features as we are not the creator of the services and are unable to troubleshoot them in the event of failure or file corruption.

So what I hear you saying is that the iPhone app used by Christian Audio was created and is supported by third party; and if a third party created a similar Android app Christian Audio would consider using it?
-
Actually, christianaudio iPhone apps are individual books and not one app that serves our downloads from your account to the device. We develop, maintain, and control all our own mobile apps are third-parties are not allowed to develop apps and connect them to our platform.
Hope that helps! -
-
I like Ulf comment, maybe I will try using through iTunes which I sync with TuneSync with Andriod

I would much rather see an android app that acts much like the market or amazon store where you can see all books available and purchase them or download your existing books...
Android is the way to go and I can immediately influence over 50 user who I know personally would use it if nothing else than just to get the free book each month. But most of them are in the mode of buying books and audio ones are hot right now!
Looking forward to an android app of some sort as the downloading to the computer then syncing with the phone is a slow process. Thank you for your time and consideration. God Bless!! -

Android now has 50% of the market and it is growing because many different manufactures are moving to android. Please Help us to buy more books by creating and Android App.

Is there at ETA on the Android App? I've been waiting a year for y'all to add support to the other half of the mobile market! :)
-
-
Nathaniel, it's really quite obvious that an Android app is desperately wanted and it's been over a year since the requests have started coming in. Are we to expect this kind of poor response and service with anything from your company? I would certainly hope that the desired Android app is set to be released very soon or many will simply drop the idea of christianaudio at all. I know I don't want to continue to wait for a positive response and action. The technology is already there, what can possibly be the hold-up?

I've learned that things around here move slooow. They are moving in the right direction, they just use the far right lane of the highway ;-)

I'm a software engineer and have dabbled in Android apps on the side. I don't have much time to devote to it, but would love to help out where I can on getting an app going, so we can all enjoy the convenience.

Thank you for even considering this effort- there are a lot of is Droid users out there that need, or would this resource. Whatever you can do to advance this project of creating this app would be so appreciated!!!

You know Nathan, that's a good point that, to be honest, I hadn't considered. It simply isn't in the budget right now. I know that some developers write amazing apps in a few weeks or months but they don't have to tie into anyone else's backend and follow all of the security measures I'm sure your licensing agreements require.
In these tough times, that's an answer that makes sense to me. I have had to use this sentence many times in the past 2 years "We can't afford that right now". ;-) I'll be praying for christianaudio that the resources you need to continue to bring Light into the audiobook world come rushing in!

I'm looking forward to the day I can download the Christianaudio android app on my tablet!

I really wish Christianaudio would get this android app soon. Amazon already has an app on android called "audible". You can purchase just about any Christian audio book and have it downloaded to your android. I would much rather support Christianaudio but until then I guess I will have to use Amazon. :(

Post a Request For Proposal including a precise application Requirements Description accessible via your website and be prepared to enable a motivated developer some means of profit.

Dear Nathaniel,
In reference to linked in post at LinkedIn Post
and a subsequent search here, I wish to offer my services for Android version of ChristianAudio.com.
About my similar experience, We already offer Mobile Radio LIVE in Android Market which is more than 75k+ downloaded applicaion in just 3 months after launch.
If you want yourself to test this application with ChristianRadio stream links, you can do this after downloading the application & adding link yourself.
If you face any challenge, you can send me the link at askacoder@gmail.com-
Thanks so much and I'll keep this in mind!

I find it sad that some christian ministries support IPhone apps only. It kind of flies against the way Jesus lived. IPhone is a monoply, why would you want to support them only?
-
-
Seriously. If they were very concerned with Android then this would have happened already. Any new Android device is capable viewing the Christianaudio.com webpage, making a purchase and then downloading the mp3 files. As long as I have a decently fast connection it's not a big deal.
Sure, it's not pretty and easy.. but C'mon people.. There are people in developing countries who walk 10 miles to hear a preacher deliver the word of God and then walk 10 miles home to teach it to their families. Can't we click a few more painless virtual buttons? I think an Android app is a great idea but obviously they know that are have to make business choices regarding their response.
Blessings,
Chad-
Chad, thanks for your understanding and support. We are making hard decisions regarding the direction of the company in these tumultuous times and we're hoping to have and do everything possible for our customers!

I started a new thread, but I'll post here too.
Can we get album cover JPG's PNG's or similar format.
The joy of Android is that there are a lot of good apps in the Market and I have one that I am very happy with... I have three widgets on one page, my MP3 Player, my eBook reader, and DogCatcher. I like the "album" cover of what I'm reading... Its not a big priority but if possible...-
OK, Being a old school hacker, I downloaded the JPG from your site and loaded in the folder and I now have an album cover. If these could be included in the zip that would be great, if not I'll just repeat the process.
